White Christmas

Texas weather is very unpredictable. One day it might be 80 degrees and the next it could be snowing (no, I'm not kidding! It really was 75 degrees the day before Christmas Eve), and that's exactly what happened the other day.

Waking up to snow flurries on Christmas Eve was very exciting! But, it wouldn't stick. Even I knew this. When it's nearly 80 degrees the day before, there is no way snow would stay around for long.

Needless to say, I was wrong. Way wrong! At one point the DFW area was under a Blizzard warning (CRAZY!). Normally, I would have loved this forecast. I mean, who wouldn't love to have a White Christmas? But, traveling+ice+stupid drivers does not = FUN. By five o'clock Christmas Eve there were already 280 accidents, and where were we? Coming come from my grandparents house--a two hour drive--of course!

Luckily, we didn't get in an accident. Unfortunately, we (meaning my husband and myself) do not have the best of luck, and our bad luck decided to pay us a visit on Christmas Eve (lucky us!). No, we didn't get in an accident (thank goodness), but we did have a tire blow out, on an icy highway. Doesn't that sound like FUN?

Even though I could spend hours telling you how much fun I didn't have on Christmas Eve, I won't. I'll just tell you this: blow out+icy roads+freezing temperatures+busy highway+stripped lock nut+me, my mom, my husband, and my 18 month-old nephew+being stuck on the side of a busy freeway from 6pm to 3am waiting for a tow truck definitely, does not = FUN!

I'm not bitter, though. At least I did get to have a White Christmas! And with that being said, I'll leave you with the few pictures I did get to take of the snow.

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas!

My house at 4 AM (when I got home, finally).

My mom's house. (Hey, she got more snow than me. NOT. FAIR!)

My precious nephew (before we got to experience the fun trip home).

And, lastly, here is my nephew on Christmas Day. Isn't he so cute!
(What the camera didn't capture was the wicked gleam in his eye as he snatches that glass ornament from the tree and throws it across the room. He loves balls!)

Happy Holidays!!!

  1. OMG, one, your nephew is so dang adorable I could squeeze him til he pops. And two, that is crazy Texas huzzah weather. My brother and his family also live in Texas and have been experiencing the meteorological madness! But how cool to get snow like that, even if only for the pictures. Glad you made it home safely. Though the misery of the experience does not seem like fun. Still, hope you're having a wonderful holiday season.

  2. OY! I'm sorry you had such a rough Xmas eve. But WOW your nephew is adorable! :D

  3. What beautiful pictures!!! I'm glad you got a bit of white for your holiday.

  4. A white Christmas is beautiful! You're so lucky! I have never had a white Christmas in Miami, sigh.

  5. Carolina - He is so cute, but I guess I have to think that because he is my nephew...LOL.

This Texas weather is CRAZY. It might snow again tomorrow. The good thing about Texas weather it changes to often you never know what you'll get. The snow was really cool, though. I've never, ever had a White Christmas.

Hope you have a safe and Happy New Year!

Kristan - Thanks! I hope you have a wonderful New Year!

  6. Bethany - Snow is rare in Texas, and a White Christmas is unheard of. It was a bit of a pain but well worth it.

I hope you have a very Happy New Year!

VS - I guess we are kind of lucky. We rarely have snow and the chances of having a White Christmas again are probably pretty low. So, in an act of preserving the memory I'm going to go scrape the front yard and make one last snow ball and chunck it at my husband...just for fun! LOL. He won't know what hit him.

Have a very Happy New Year!

  7. I used to live in California and still remember my first snow.

    Merry Christmas. :)

  8. Awww, I like the snow and your nephew! And hey -- nice debut author list over there on the right!!!

  9. Daisy - LOL. Thanks! I'm glad you like the list! There's this one book I really want to read called "The Mockingbirds" by someone named Daisy Whitney. Do you know her? [smiles] It sounds like a great book! : )

    Happy New Year, Daisy!!!

Corra - Merry Christmas to you and Happy New Year! The snow was beautiful and we might get more today. : )
