Fallen

What if the person you were meant to be with could never be yours?

There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she see him on her first day at Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce--and goes out of his way to make that very clear--she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret...even if it kills her.

First, I want to start by saying that the cover art alone was enough to make me want to buy this book. If you didn't know: I'm a sucker for a good book cover, and this one is absolutely stunning.

Okay, now that I've drooled over the cover long enough, we move to the important stuff...the story (and the hot boys).

After reading Becca Fitzpatrick's fallen angel novel Hush, Hush, (which is a fantastic read, by the way) I was extremely excited to get my hands on another fallen angel novel, and in this case it was Fallen by Lauren Kate. Fallen angels are new, mysterious, and are still untapped young adult, paranormal characters. (Hear that Carol??? You must keep writing because I can't wait to read your fallen angel novel, too!)

Laren Kate (a native Dallas, Texan, by the way) yanked me into Luce's story immediately. One can't help but to feel sorry for our heroine: seemingly innocent, grief-stricken girl, who is thrown into a literal hell hole that is far away from home and everything she knows, with a bunch of screw-ups. WOW! Now that sucks!

Only one thing that brightens her day, and he wants nothing to do with her (isn't that how most teenage girls feel at some point in their lives? I'm sure I did, too). This compelling story had great potential; however, at times I felt that it moved a little too slowly for my taste. Don't get me wrong, I really liked this book. And not once did I want to put it down, but maybe that's because I was anxiously awaiting the action, which unfortunately you have to read 3/4 of the way into the book to find. Now, those last 150 pages...WOW! They are crammed full of goodness (hot-boy kissing goodness! And what's better than that, really?).

Even with that being said, I would still recommend this book to anyone. Especially Twilight lovers because believe me when I say: the two have A LOT of similarities between them.

The second novel in the series, Torment, is slated to be released September 2010. I'm really excited to see what Lauren Kate will give us with Torment. Whatever it is...I'm hooked. The ending of Fallen only left me craving more (hot-boy kissing goodness, of course!).

So, be sure to pick up your copy of Fallen today! And, when you do, I hope you all enjoy hot-boy kissing goodness (I love this saying. I think I'm going to have to use it more often!) as much as I did.

  2. Sara - It is a great book! And even though I said it took awhile to get the point, I still loved it. Every freakin' minute of it! I can't wait to get the sequel.

    Have a great day!

  4. Interesting. I'm writing a Fallen Angel book so I have banned myself from reading Fallen or Hush Hush for the time being so they aren't in my head as I write. Book 1 down, 2 more to go. After that I plan on reading both of them. Thanks for the review!

Eva - Good luck on your book. I completely understand not reading what you're writing about. Hope you read them when you're done, though. They are both great!

Victoria - Loved this book! Very hot! : )

Tiana - Someday, when I get a book deal (fingers crossed), I hope my title and cover look as good as this one! Otherwise, I might just cry. : )

  8. OMG, my heart is palpatating...no more fallen angel books!!! No no no no!! Gulp.

Ok, so I can't read this any time soon. I think I'll cry...

But, I must say, I do hear you. Definitely room. But I still think I'll cry.

Nice cover though (and you crack me up....)

  9. Carolina - Well, I do what I can [dusts shoulders off]. : )

You want to hear a secret?

When I first started my current WIP, one of my characters was going to be a fallen angel.

I thought I was being so creative and original. HA! The very next day I read a review of a little book that was coming out in a couple of weeks called Hush, Hush.

My dreams were sqaushed! I cried. And then I moved on.

My angel was really never part of the fallen angel variety, anyway. Completely differnet, actually. But, until I finish (and figure out exactly what and who I want him to be), I will remain hush, hush. : ) LOL.

You know it's bad when you crack yourself up! : ) I'm hopeless.

Good luck on your WIP, Carol! I can't wait to see it published because I will never tire of fallen angels. They're so bad...in a good way! : )

  10. I think my blog reading addiction is quickly being eclipsed by my "need to read" book addiction. I've seriously started making a list for myself.

    Thanks for the review!

    And HAPPY HUMP DAY!

  11. Kristi - Always glad to help (people with their blogging/ reading addictions, that is). : )

Don't worry. My "need to read" pile taking on a mind of its own. I'm waiting for it to start requesting breakfast, lunch, and dinner to be provided. And, if it does...HA! Hope it likes Ramen! : )

Happy Hump Day to you, too!

  15. You're right, the cover art is amazing. I enjoyed your review. I don't read YA very often so when I do, I love to read books that are recommended and compared to other books in the same genre that I've enjoyed. Thanks!

  16. Elana - Yes! Add, add away! : )

Lisa and Laura - Aren't fallen angels just...hott! You don't have to answer that. We already know the answer. Yes! Yes, they are!

Jennifer - Absolutely adore that cover!

Cindy - I'm glad my review (or more like, obsession with hot boy kissing goodness) helped. : )

  18. Okay you convinced me to keep going. I was getting a little bored with Fallen but I am a sucker for hot boy kissing, even when the hot boys are half my age :)

  19. Alexa - Keep reading! It gets better. I promise. : )

And it's okay to look forward to hot boy kissing, even if they are half your age. They're fake people, so all bets are off! : )

    Enjoy!

  20. Wow - who did the trailer? That's a lot more professional than some I've seen.

I don't think Fallen is at all something I'd enjoy reading? I couldn't stand Twilight. But I did appreciate hearing your take, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) I surely won't rule out reading it.

  21. Corra - I'm not sure who made the trailer, but it was posted on YouTube by Randomhouse, so it's probably safe to say it was professionally done. It is a good trailer, though. : )

I would say: if you didn't like Twilight, then you probably won't like Fallen. But I could be wrong.

    Have a great weekend!
