My Newest Obsessions

Newest Obsession #1: The Carrie Diaries

I've made it no secret that I am a die-hard Sex and the City fan over the years. I own the series on DVD and I could probably detail every episode in chronological order if asked. So when Candace Bushnell came out with the new YA series of books a couple of years ago, The Carrie Diaries, which is a based on Carrie Bradshaw as a teen, it was no surprise that I was already a fan by association to it's namesake.

But wait, it gets better (or worse, in my fan-girldom case) because now, NOW, The Carrie Diaries has become a TV series.... And I am not ashamed at all to say that I'm in love (even though it is airing in place of Gossip Girl, which I also loved. Chuck Bass is dearly missed). It's like getting a second chance to watch Carrie again. AnnaSophia Robb is the perfect Carrie, in my opinion. Her mannerisms, hair, clothes everything screams Carrie Bradshaw! It doesn't hurt that she's just so freakin' cute too! I seriously hate her--in a friendly way, of course. Ha!

I often try to hold out on watching new series because it never fails that I watch them, LOVE them, and then they are promptly cancelled (al la Emily Owens, MD.  No comment). I couldn't resist with this one though, so here's to hoping (and praying to the Carrie gods) that it will not be cancelled!

Newest Obsession #2: The Walking Dead

I adamantly refused to watch this one for the longest time. Yeah, I had heard awesome things about it, and even tried to watch it once before, got a good look at the zombie child that kicks off the first episode, and promptly turned it off--because I'm a wimp and it was dark and I was by myself. Don't judge, those are all logical and rational reasons.

Per the usual though, a couple of weekends ago, I gave in. It took me two days to watch seasons 1 through the first half of season 3, and it's no surprise that I'm not hooked. This is the way it always goes with me. I refuse, relent, and then I just. can't. stop. watching!

The only upside to holding out for so long is that I got to binge on all of the zombie goodness, which is sometimes nice. AND I didn't have to wait but a few weeks for the second half of season three to start up again. So really, who's the smart one here? Hmmm??  That's what I thought. There usually is a method to my madness, or at least that's what I like to tell myself, anyway.

So, what are you guys watching these days? Is there anything else I need to add to my binge TV pile? Does anyone love Daryl (from The Walking Dead) as much as I do??

  1. Oh my gosh, I haven't watched either. Right now I'm CONSUMED with American Idol. Every year I say it's not going to happen but then...it happens. And Downton Abbey :)

  2. I'm not a big American Idol watcher, but I have added Downton Abbey to my netflix queue. I haven't gotten a chance to watch it though. But Summer will be here before you know it, and nothing will be on TV. :)

  3. I loved Sex and the City, so I'd probably love the Carrie Diaries. The 80's fashion would be a bonus~
And one day I will rent the Walking Dead series and watch it for weeks. One day.

    1. It's a really cute show! And I would recommend watching the Walking Dead as a whole. It's sometimes easier to do that. I had zombie dreams for days after I watched three seasons in two days. For days...

  4. Not a Sex in the City fan...I know, I know. But I am obsessed with The Walking Dead. And The Vampire Diaries. And Once Upon A Time. Now that I think about it, I may have an issue with reality.

If Carrie had a ghost following her around I'd watch it.

    1. Yeah, Carrie probably doesn't have the kind of ghosts you're interested in. haha. But I do love Vampire Diaries! A lot! Team Vampire Diaries Boys!!! :)

    1. I LOVE Carrie Diaries! I think it gets faster, but I don't know. I'm pretty biased on this one. :)

  7. I've been a Walking Dead fan since day 1. My wife tries to like it, but they do go over the top with grossness every now and again. :)

    1. I SO LOVE The Walking Dead. I can't believe it took me that long to start watching it. Though, it is always kind of nice to be able to watch so many shows back to back to back. It kinda sucks now that I'm caught up and have to wait until Sunday every week to see a new one. But yes! The grossness can be a little much sometimes. The grosses part so far: cutting open the zombie stomach to look for Sophia. UGH. Barf!

  8. WHERE DID YOU FIND SEASON 3 TO STREAM?! I'm in season 2 and haven't found anywhere that I can watch season 3 for free.

    1. I have Verizon Fios cable service and was able to watch it through their on-demand option. Luckily I got to it when I did, because I only believe part of season three is on there now. I just read earlier today that there are only three episodes of season 3 left and next season won't start until October. Makes me sad, but maybe season 3 will be uploaded to Netflix soon!

  9. And now I know that Emily Owens, M.D. was cancelled. :( Haven't checked out the Carrie Diaries yet, but it does look really good. I didn't get hooked on The Walking Dead in the beginning either and now I can't get enough. There's so much drama! It is fun to check out a series later on when you can watch episodes back to back. I did that with Friday Night Lights, Pretty Little Liars, Smash, Greek, and now 24. Yes, I have a TV addiction.

    Have a fabulous week!

    1. I actually really loved Emily Owens, M.D. Mamie Gummer is just so awesome, I always love all shows she is in and then they are cancelled. I've actually cut down on a lot of my TV shows, but I still record WAY TOO MANY!! :)
